Elizabeth Kotek is a licensed acupuncturist and clinical herbalist in the state of California and a Nationally Certified Diplomat of Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Her specialties include pain management (neck/shoulder pain, back pain, sciatica), mental health (such as anxiety, depression, and stress), sleep disorders, postpartum depression, digestive issues, women’s health and cosmetic acupuncture. She believes health and well-being are multi-dimensional, and that the relationship between patient and practitioner is a unique partnership.
As a mother of two, she believes a well-rounded diet will nourish her family from the inside out. Having grown up in a “meat and potatoes” household, Elizabeth decided in her early 20’s that she needed to make a change. She remembers her mother saying “eat your veggies” during dinner, when those veggies consisted of iceberg lettuce. Knowing there was a much bigger world than iceberg lettuce, she sought more natural pathways to improve her health which led her to the ancient practice of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Elizabeth uses the principles and foundations of traditional Chinese medicine to nurture each patient, enlisting a combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine alongside complementary modalities such as cupping, moxibustion, gua sha and tuina (Chinese massage). In conjunction with these Eastern approaches, she is additionally impassioned by the healing elements of food. Her inside-out and outside-in approaches of food and medicine are a unique insight that have been welcomed by patients, many of whom see her as an essential companion for their health and wellness routines.
Elizabeth earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Washington D.C.‘s American University and followed it with a Masters’ Degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from Los Angeles’s YoSan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She continues to seek training from those that might help her grow as a modern practitioner of an ancient practice.
